What Is Host And Post?

One of the most common forms of online lead generation advertising placement is host and post. This type of lead generation is also known as ‘white labeling’ which involves a process wherein the publisher hosts the advertiser forms on his/her web page and then post or send data to the advertiser. Host and post method allows publishers (the host), to collect leads on their own landing page and pass the leads to the advertiser (the post).

Publishers may transfer data to the advertiser through a variety of formats, ranging from least automated and least secured to the most automated and most secured. Following are different data transfer methods which are commonly used by publishers:

  • E-mail: Leads are sent via e-mail. As of today, it is the most common yet unsecured form of data transfer; reason why it is being continuously polished by publishers to make it or evolve it to a more secured method.
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP): A non-real-time process that involves exchanging files via a folder-based drag and drop application.
  • Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) GET and HTTP POST: The most common method of data transfer as of today in which leads are being sent via server to server connection in real-time.
  • Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). This is the same with HTTP format; the only difference is that in HTTPS, the data is encrypted.

The main benefit of host and post platform is control. Through this, affiliate marketers will be able to control the creatives and landing pages as well as keep their data for re-marketing and nurturing. Host and post method offers visibility of every lead that comes through the system, allowing affiliate marketing firms to make more intelligent decisions with regard to expanding the business.

More control over their landing pages and lead forms helps affiliate marketing firms to achieve higher conversion rates. Other advantages include the freedom to host pre-defined form and an opportunity to create an exclusive label and pull uniquely targeted traffic to the campaign.

For affiliate marketing firms, the host and post method can be a great opportunity of targeting contents for their websites. There would be no harm in trying to run this method as it has a significant role in the online advertising industry and it may positively impacts affiliate marketers’ income if done and executed correctly.

I have run HnP in debt, dating, and credit report for the majority of my marketing career. In dating, it is particularly effective as you have so many different offerings to bring back to your lead base.

Remember though that you can over market to a lead where it loses its value for the original advertiser who purchased it. Build out a strategy with your lead buying partners that is good for everyone.

For instance, in the dating vertical think of auxiliary products you can remarket – services to have your dating profile written, to clean up a profile image, weight loss / exercise etc.

You can still bring them back to other dating offers, just consider doing that over a longer period of time so that they have the maximum time to convert to a paying customer for each offering.

The higher your lead quality, the better you earn!
