Mobile Advertising Recon Tool Tip
Grinders,
I’m feeling rather generous today, so I thought I would throw out one of my Mobile Ad Recon tools that I use to see and learn about what major brands are advertising on mobile. It’s the Yahoo Mobile Showcase. Yahoo claims to have over 84 million mobile and tablet visitors each month. Combined with Comscore, Yahoo has created this pretty awesome tool that includes some of their internal data.
It’s simple to use and includes three sections:
- Category
- Ad Formats
- Features
Basically, you can scroll through each of the 3 major navigation options I listed above and see some examples in creative mobile advertising from some of Yahoo’s leading brands whom are advertising on mobile.
Category and ad formats are pretty simple and self-explanatory but when I got to Features, I was greeted with:
- Animation
- Click To Call
- Facebook Share
- Store Locator
- Twitter Share
- Carousel
- Data Collection
- Opt-In
- Sweepstakes
- Video
Here, you can click on each one and see some really interesting uses of brands utilizing mobile advertising.

Ruck, why is this useful?
Let’s do a simple scenario here. Imagine for a minute what the brand Covergirl spends on mobile advertising. Then let’s consider your own mobile advertising budget? I’m going to take a guess that Covergirl spends CONSIDERABLY more than you and I. That means, if they are spending more than us, we should probably pay close attention to what their doing right? Absolutely!
The showcase features videos on ads in eight industry categories run by major brands including Visa, McDonalds, Covergirl, Ford and Chevy. See mobile ad formats such as polyads, adhesion banners, elevation ad and more in action on real-life ads. Ditto for ad features such as animation, carousel, click to call, store locator, sweepstakes, data collection, and Facebook and Twitter share. Roll through all the videos, case studies and mobile knowledge packed into the showcase, and you’ll come out with new understanding and ideas on to leverage mobile ads. If you found this resource helpful, give this post a share. I truly appreciate it!
